Rented a cube van today to pick up my new living room furniture and the balls for the ballpit. The couches were easy, but I had a bit of trouble getting the six giant cubes containing 500 balls each into the van around the two pieces of couch. Thankfully, years of competitive Tetris with my father as a child had yet another chance to prove itself a valuable childhood experience. The largest problem, however, was that there was no one to help me haul all that shit up my stupidly tall and narrow stairs. I did it, obviously, and there is something to be said about the satisfaction of doing something for yourself, all by yourself. The couches were the hardest part, as they were long and heavy, but the cubes were so light that I could take three at a time with a little finger acrobatics.
At the end of it all I was tired and sweaty, had no time to shower or even buy booze for the night, but by God I owned a new couch and 3,000 colorful ball pit balls. So off to the Erin’s party I went, smelly but satisfied, and looking forward to a tearful and memorable evening.
